Expediting the process of Assessment and Accreditation
As on date 578 Colleges in Tamil Nadu have been assessed and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The Directorate is taking effective steps to expedite this process. A State Level Workshop for the Principals of Non accredited Colleges was organized by the Quality Assurance Cell of this Directorate.
Quality Improvement Programmes for the Teachers working in Constituent Colleges
The Directorate is conducting Quality Improvement Programmes for enhancing teacher motivation, up-gradation of their skills and exposure to the latest trends in Education.
Grant of Autonomy to colleges
Granting of Autonomy to colleges has been proved to be successful and effective in Tamil Nadu. As on date 20 Government Colleges and 60 Government Aided Colleges and 7 Self Financing Colleges have been granted Autonomous status in Tamil Nadu.
Special coaching to SC/ST and MBC students
Special coaching by way of remedial classes, outside class hours and also on weekends is given to SC/ST/ MBC students who are weak in English, Maths and Science subjects.
Providing Computer Training to Visually Handicapped students
As envisaged by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, free computer training is being given to Visually Handicapped Students. A centre for this purpose has been established at Presidency College, Chennai and 10 visually handicapped students are given training every year at free of cost. As envisaged by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, a “Digital Reading Library” is set up for the Visually Handicapped Students of Presidency College, Chennai.
